The Skeleton Dance (1929)

Directed by Walt Disney
Animated by Ubbe Iwerks
Uncredited animation by Walt Disney, Roy E. Disney, Wilfred Jackson, and Les Clark

The Skeleton Dance was the first ever Silly Symphony short. Walt Disney had wanted to diversify and not rely entirely on Mickey Mouse for their successes. It was Carl W. Stalling who came up with idea of creating animated musical novelties. Stalling also was credited with the main idea behind The Skeleton Dance. As a child he came across an article in “The American Boy” magazine which featured dancing skeletons and the image had always stuck with him.
